Nurses Amber Parker, Thomas Sobeck receive DAISY Awards
Congratulations to nurses Amber Parker and Thomas Sobeck, who recently received DAISY Awards!
The DAISY Awards are given out by the DAISY Foundation to nurses who go above and beyond in their role.
At Michigan Medicine, Parker has received three award nominations.
Among them was a parent who recounted the extraordinary care Parker provided:
“Amber treated my daughter like one of her own children, and went above and beyond each time she cared for her during our stay. The first evening, she welcomed us as if we were staying in her own home. We found her to be extremely attentive, but gentle and kind to my daughter. She takes extra care to make sure that medications are provided in a gentle manner, has a great sense of humor and puts the families at ease.
She was compassionate to us, but also unflappable and sharply observant of any and all changes in my daughter’s medical condition. Amber was able to work swiftly, accurately and gracefully with us throughout the first couple critical days immediately following surgery, and then in the less critical but uncomfortable days that followed my daughter’s recovery.
On Amber’s shifts, I knew my daughter would never be in pain, and that all of her needs would be addressed. Nurses such as Amber are a rare find in the health care world, and I believe she is such a treasure to this hospital.”
Sobeck, meanwhile, earned the following nomination:
“Nurse Thomas is as fine of a nurse as I have met throughout the last five years of receiving care during the inpatient stays with my daughter. He is a rare find in that he is proficient at executing top-notch nursing care, he relates to patients by putting them at ease while providing care, he talks with families, making them feel welcome and, lastly, he is extremely thorough and professional in communicating with doctors and relaying information to the family.
He put my daughter right at ease as soon as she met him, by always tell her what he is about to do and how it will feel. He was so genuinely interested in what my daughter had to say and brightens the energy in a room!”
