Congratulations to Carrie Pilarski, Ph.D., for receiving the Harold Yuker Award for Research Excellence from the American Psychological Association!

The award recognizes the highest-rated paper published in the journal Rehabilitation Psychology during the previous year. The honor is presented annually at the APA convention by the Division of Rehabilitation Psychology.

Pilarski received the award for her paper, “#SayTheWord: A disability culture commentary on the erasure of disability.” Pilarski and her fellow authors highlight the need for clinicians, educators and disability allies to normalize the word “disability.”

“I am so proud to be a part of the authorship team addressing disability language and pride in disability identification, a part of the division of Rehabilitation Psychology and a contributing member of the flagship journal in my field,” Pilarski says. “The recognition of our article validates my personal experience in gaining disability pride, and my goal to support and advocate for the disability community. The award also demonstrates a positive change and commitment in my field to issues of social justice!”

Congratulations to Dr. Pilarski!
