Today, Oct. 20, is National Pharmacy Technician Day. Each year, this special day is set aside to recognize the important contributions pharmacy technicians make to the high quality care of our patients. It is the perfect opportunity for you to show your appreciation.

Pharmacy technicians are truly amazing. Their hard work and dedication serve as the backbone to many of the organization’s pharmacy services.

Did you know Michigan Medicine employs roughly 250 pharmacy technicians? Their skills and expertise are relied upon to package and prepare medications, including sterile products and chemotherapy.

Pharmacy technicians also serve in vital roles in inventory management, medication delivery, research, regulatory compliance, medication safety, automation and technology, teaching and the coordination of medications when patients are discharged. Their contributions are invaluable on the health care team.

This year’s celebration is particularly important in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Pharmacy technicians have consistently been on the front lines to help ensure medications are prepared and delivered in a safe and timely fashion.

Thank you to these heroic team members!
