Mark H. Kaplan, M.D., professor emeritus at Michigan Medicine, is a physician who specialized in infectious diseases and virology, practicing medicine for more than 52 years.

He has always embraced art as an outlet for creative and emotional expression, especially during the trying times at the forefront of the AIDS epidemic.

His ceramic works and accompanying wood hand-built furniture often depict the relationships between a doctor and patients, as well as the life of the everyday person.

His wife Carol Dosik Kaplan and son Daniel J. Kaplan have contributed painting to the works.

In addition to ceramic and wood, Kaplan also works in bronze/polyester resin and stone.
