Leaders hosted a virtual town hall on Friday, Aug. 21 to discuss medical students’ safe return to campus, family care survey results, wellness survey results and operational updates. If you missed it, view the town hall video above.

Several questions that were not addressed during the town hall are answered below.

Q: Will dependent care flex spending funds be extended beyond March since it is difficult to spend the funds at this time?

A: Yes, the new deadline to submit FSA expenses is May 31, 2021.

Q: Do we expect reduction in services if we have another COVID-19 spike?

A: We will have to balance reductions in services with projected increases in COVID-19 cases. We are better prepared to manage increases in cases with all we have learned. If there is a very rapid increase in COVID-19 patients, we will need to assess how much reduction would be required to safely care for COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients.

Q: How are we going to handle a large increase in testing needs once students return to campus, and some secondary schools allow/require in-person learning?

A: We are significantly increasing our testing capacity to be able to meet the potential demand.  Students returning to campus are getting tested through a commercial lab before coming to campus.
