NEW TODAY: Here’s the latest information about Michigan Medicine’s management of operations:

  • CLARIFICATION:  MASK POLICY AND MASK AMBASSADORS

MASK POLICY AND MASK AMBASSADORS

To ensure the safety of our patients, visitors and work force, employees able to medically tolerate one must wear a covering over their nose and mouth when in any enclosed public spaces. This includes buses and shuttles traveling to and from work, building elevators, parking structure elevators, cafeterias, and any other enclosed public areas. Masks should also be worn outside when social distancing of 6 feet is a challenge.

Medical masks are required for the protection of healthcare workers for any patient facing activities.  This includes:

·       Direct patient care

·       Being in a patient room/care area

·       Face to face interactions with patient such as greeters/check in staff

Cloth masks can be worn in clinical buildings by those not having direct patient interactions.  For example:

·       Workforce members that work in offices or areas that do not have direct patient contact

·       Health care workers entering a facility until they are able to obtain a medical mask from security

Beginning this week, “mask ambassadors” from Security will be stationed at bus and shuttle stops to ensure that there is compliance with the mask policy on the commute to and from remote parking lots. Please be prepared by putting on your mask before you board buses and shuttles. Please note that as of this Thursday, July 9, mask ambassadors will no longer provide any masks at bus and shuttle stops; you must bring and wear your own mask to board the bus or shuttle. Security will continue to distribute masks at facility entry points.

As a reminder, in both indoor and enclosed public spaces, masks must cover both your nose and your mouth.  Learn more about how to wear medical masks and cloth masks appropriately.

Thank you for your compliance to help keep our community safe.
