Four Emergency Medicine Physicians Receive Prestigious Society Awards

Congratulations to the following physicians from the Michigan Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine! They each received a prestigious award from the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, a national society dedicated to improving patient care, education and research in emergency medicine. The awards are usually presented in person at the SAEM Annual Meeting, but the meeting was hosted virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Robert Neumar, M.D., Ph.D. – John Marx Leadership Award

According to SAEM, “this award honors a SAEM member who has made exceptional contributions to emergency medicine through leadership – locally, regionally, nationally or internationally – with priority given to those with demonstrated leadership within SAEM.”

Kevin Ward, M.D. – Excellence in Research Award

According to SAEM, “this award honors a SAEM member who has made outstanding contributions to emergency medicine through the creation and sharing of new knowledge.”

William Meurer, M.D. – Mid-Career Investigator Award

According to SAEM, “this award recognizes those SAEM members who have demonstrated commitment and achievement in research during the mid-stage of their academic career.”

Carolyn Commissaris, M.D. – Resident Educator Award

According to SAEM, “this award is given annually to a senior emergency medicine resident who has demonstrated exceptional aptitude and passion for teaching during residency.”
