LEADERSHIP VIDEO

View the latest video from Dr. Dave Spahlinger and Devin Carr with important updates about keeping our employees safe: https://youtu.be/Upox6X2UadI.

Please take the time to view this video as it contains significant and important changes to our operations.

PPE AND UPCOMING UNIVERSAL MASK PROTOCOL UPDATE

Given the widespread community transmission of COVID-19, and to better protect our staff, we will be providing masks to all employees working at all patient care sites by mid-week. Masks will be distributed by security as employees enter our facilities. All team members must wear the same mask at all times, and not take them off unless soiled or wet. Masks must cover the nose and mouth. We also urge you to avoid touching the mask or your face, and wash your hands before and after removing the mask. Additional details will be provided in a written communication later today.

For direct patient care with PUI or COVID-positive patients, continue to follow the PPE guidelines.

We must commit to using masks responsibly and be mindful of how often you remove and replace your mask.  This is so important because we continue to balance our supply decisions with the shortage of masks that exists worldwide.  We are actively managing our supply chain.  This is all of our responsibility.

UPDATES ON EMPLOYEE EXPOSURE AND RETURN TO WORK

As a result of widespread community transmission, the state has issued new information today stating that healthcare workers who have been placed off work following travel or an exposure and who are asymptomatic may be asked to return to work.  If you develop symptoms, stay at home. If you develop symptoms at work, do not complete your shift and return home.

Workforce members with concerning symptoms should contact Occupational Health immediately. Workforce members who are concerned they have been exposed to COVID-19 may contact Occupational Health for guidance.

Infection Prevention and Epidemiology will continue to facilitate notification of Michigan Medicine workforce members when they have been exposed to a patient with confirmed COVID-19.

VISITOR RESTRICTIONS

We will no longer allow visitors in UH, CVC and C&W hospitals and in Ambulatory Care sites in order to protect our staff, patients, and community during the outbreak of COVID-19.  Defined exceptions will be made in the following instances:

•          Obstetrics

•          Pediatrics

•          End-of-life care

•          And patients in a few other select categories

The new policy is available at  https://michmed-clinical.policystat.com/policy/7804587/latest/.
