World Sleep Day is this Friday, March 13. This year, the day will incorporate the theme “Better Sleep, Better Life, Better Planet.”

The theme highlights sleep’s important place as a pillar of health, allowing for better decision-making and cognitive understanding of big issues. This focus is purposefully broad in meaning, surrounding the message that quality of life can be improved with healthy sleep. Conversely, when sleep fails, health declines, decreasing quality of life.

On Friday, the Michigan Medicine Sleep Disorders Center will host an important event for faculty and staff in the Towsley Triangle in order to promote healthy sleep. Between 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., there will be educational handouts and freebies for all who stop by.

Additionally, the World Sleep Society has compiled 10 tips for healthier sleep. These recommendations for children and adults can be found here.
