Colleagues,

For weeks, Michigan Medicine teams have been preparing to care for patients infected with COVID-19 if the need arises. Although there are currently no reported cases in the state of Michigan, we have activated our emergency response protocols, proactively ordered supplies and initiated plans for handling potential patients.

I would like to thank everyone across the organization who has been involved in ensuring our preparedness for managing potential patients who may have COVID-19. Our teams will take all necessary precautions to triage patients appropriately and prevent the spread of the virus. We continue to work closely with state and local public health officials to monitor the disease and the best practices for containment.

Please be reminded that the best defense is proper hand hygiene and staying home and away from others if you have any symptoms of illness. If you have concerns about your work unit, please contact your supervisor.

The safety of our patients, employees and our community is our top priority. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to our patients and to maintaining a safe environment as the COVID-19 situation continues.

Sincerely,

Marschall S. Runge, M.D., Ph.D.
