When a cart is near, please stay clear!

Preventing patient and employee harm is a major component of the organization’s journey to high reliability. As such, the Laundry Services, Environmental Services, and Safety Management leadership teams would like to remind you to please politely share the hallways with linen carts.

A full laundry cart can weigh hundreds of pounds and can be difficult for the Linen Distribution and Environmental Services team members to maneuver and see around them.

“With busy schedules, emergencies and non-stop foot traffic, faculty and staff don’t always think about moving aside for a linen cart as it passes,” said Ben Borden, administrative manager for Environmental Services. “But doing just that will keep you safe — and will keep your colleagues safe from accidents and injuries.”

As Michigan Medicine’s journey to high reliability begins, please be courteous and remember to:

  • Share hospital hallways with linen carts.
  • Take a few seconds — and a few steps — to allow carts to pass.
  • Help warn others nearby who may not be watching out to do the same.

“As health care professionals, it is our mutual responsibility to maintain a safe and reliable environment,” Borden said. “We are all partners when it comes to keeping Michigan Medicine free of avoidable harm.”

Thank you in advance for your support!
