The ‘Whimsical World of Greg Potter’ on display at Michigan Medicine

One of Greg Potter’s pieces on display at Taubman Center.

Surrealist painter and instructor Greg Potter is based in Franklin, Indiana. After more than 20 years in the service and four tours in the Middle East, he is now pursuing his passion in painting and 3D art.

Lightheartedness, quirkiness and a desire for freedom are his creatures’ main traits as they fly on nests, sail on lakes or venture into outer space.

Looking for autonomy on their way somewhere, his boldly colored animal explorers, tourists and misfits are uncaring about their surroundings and challenge expectations. They are out of their element due to circumstances beyond their control.

One patient shared that for her, Potter’s work symbolized the process of adapting to a diagnosis by transforming into someone stronger and wiser without losing who you really are.
