Today is the last day Michigan Medicine employees can order poinsettias online to be delivered to patients in the hospital this December. The plants available for donation are 4.5 inch red poinsettias costing just $6.50 each.

“I would love to see every patient in the hospital receive a poinsettia this year,” said Shon Dwyer, M.B.A., R.N., executive director for University Hospital and Frankel Cardiovascular Center.

So far, more than 400 plants have been donated, far surpassing last year’s total of 158 poinsettias. Gifting every hospital patient with a poinsettia this year would require donations of 750 plants.

“Michigan Medicine employees are such caring and giving people. I am optimistic that we can donate enough plants to do this,” said Dwyer, who donated 100 plants herself to kick off this year’s sale.

In addition to brightening the holidays for patients in the hospital, this year’s poinsettia sale will help provide blankets for patients and support the development of a University Hospital Family Center.
