You’re invited: Inaugural Margaret M. Calarco Leadership Lectureship

October 1, 2019  //  FOUND IN: Strategy & Leadership

For more than 17 years, Margaret (Marge) M. Calarco, Ph.D., R.N., served as the chief nurse executive at Michigan Medicine.

In honor of her many contributions to the health system and nursing community, health system President David Spahlinger, M.D., established an endowment to support an annual leadership lectureship in her name. It was Calarco’s wish that all staff be invited to attend the event, which is planned in partnership with the health system and the U-M School of Nursing.

Therefore, all staff are invited to attend the inaugural Margaret M. Calarco Leadership Lectureship on Friday, Oct. 4. The event will take place in Ford Auditorium from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Victor J. Strecher, Ph.D., M.P.H.; professor with the U-M School of Public Health and Medical School, and founder and CEO of Kumanu, will be delivering the address.

“It is quite fitting that ‘purpose’ would be the topic of the first lectureship in Marge’s name,” said Shon Dwyer, R.N., B.S.N., M.B.A., executive director of UH/CVC. “I have always admired the clarity she has in her personal purpose as a leader and for working tirelessly for what she believes the purpose of nursing is at Michigan — relentlessly striving to provide the finest care for those who place their lives in our hands.”
