Week in Review: Week of Oct. 7, 2019
Happy Friday! At Headlines, the word of the week was community. That’s because the newsletter highlighted physician assistants who make an impact in the community through their annual outreach project. Additionally, team members shared how they helped the Brighton community through a medication disposal event; and an employee recounted how they found the support they needed from the Michigan Medicine community when depression showed up in the workplace.

For those stories and more, here’s the Week in Review!
Connecting in the community: PAs team up, give back during annual community outreach project
For the past decade, physician assistants across Michigan Medicine have come together to make an impact in the surrounding area. They’ve done so by partnering with Habitat for Humanity to raise money and renovate homes for low-income buyers who can’t afford costly mortgages. To close out PA Week, learn more about this important tradition!
Keeping the community safe: Students, team members host medication disposal event
Once medications expire or go unused, it’s essential to get them out of homes and away from potential harm. That was the goal behind last week’s medication take-back even at the Brighton Center for Specialty Care. Take a look back at the successful program, which proved that “the appetite is there for us to help individuals protect themselves and the environment around them.”
Sparking compassion, not fear, when depression shows up in the workplace
Depression does not discriminate. It can affect anyone at any time regardless of age, gender, cultural or economic background. And its symptoms can show up at home or in the workplace. That’s what happened to one courageous employee, who shared their story during Depression Awareness Month to emphasize the importance of showing compassion when a colleague is in need of assistance.
