Metal Vessels artwork on display at Michigan Medicine

Victoria (Vika) Bulgakova grew up in Ukraine and immigrated to the U.S. in 1994. For the next 22 years, New York became her home.

In 2016, she moved to Michigan to pursue an MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art. She found the raw beauty of Detroit inspiring and kept her metalsmithing studio practice in the city.

The copper and brass vessels in her exhibit at Michigan Medicine are a meditation on fluidity of memories and their ability to shift from reflection to re-invention over time. Each vessel potentially holds something within its boundaries, whether tangible or not.
