Did you know every M.D., D.O., N.P. and P.A. credentialed to provide clinical care at Michigan Medicine has a profile on and the organization’s family of clinical care websites?

Your online profile is automatically created when you become a provider at Michigan Medicine, and it is populated with information from your credentialing file as well as MiChart provider information.

Beyond where you went to school and what board certification you have, though, there is so much more your profile can tell your potential patients about you!

Enhanced profile information

You can add a variety of information to your profile, including a biography, information about your clinical interests, a description of your research activities and links to your lab site or related articles.

Faculty often report patient families bring up portions of or even print the profile of their physician when they come to their first appointment. An additional benefit of an enhanced provider profile is a higher likelihood that your profile will come up on internet searches for you or physicians in your specialty.

Profile photo and video

You may be surprised to know that provider profiles that include a photo are viewed up to twice as often as those without.

Additionally, the inclusion of a photo on your profile has been shown to help reduce the uncertainty that patients may feel as they prepare for an appointment with you. If you don’t have a professional portrait for your profile, you can arrange to have one taken through the Portrait Service website.

A video profile is also a great way to personalize your profile. The Department of Communication offers regularly scheduled profile filming shoots for faculty.

The additional benefit of having a profile video filmed is that your profile will also be uploaded to YouTube. YouTube itself is now the 2nd most used search engine on the internet, so you can increase the likelihood that patients will find you online by having a profile video available on the internet.

Filming your video profile is simple and painless, and should take no more than 15 minutes of your time. Sign up for one of the upcoming video profile appointments.
