Reshma Jagsi, M.D., D.Phil., is the recipient of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Group on Women in Medicine and Science Leadership Award. The awards are presented annually to the individual and organization that demonstrate a significant impact on the advancement of women’s roles in academic medicine and science.

Jagsi is the Newman Family Professor of Radiation Oncology in the Medical School. She also directs the Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine. Recipient of multiple independent grants from the National Institutes of Health and foundations, Jagsi has made substantial contributions to clinical breast cancer research and health services research.

Her population-based analyses have been highly influential in shaping the discourse regarding genetic testing, surgery and adjuvant therapies, and outcomes during survivorship. She has identified many targets for quality improvement, including needs for management of financial toxicity, employment support, discussion of genetic risk, and access to breast reconstruction.

She also is an international leader in the field of breast cancer clinical research. She is leading a pair of promising trials: omission of radiotherapy in patients with biologically favorable disease, and intensification of radiotherapy for inflammatory disease using a thoughtful translational approach of concurrent PARP inhibition.

She will receive the award Nov. 9 at the AAMC annual meeting in Phoenix.
