9th Annual Thomas D. Gelehrter, M.D. Lecture in Medical Genetics

The Thomas D. Gelehrter Lecture in Medical Genetics will take place on October 29, 2019, and honors the work of Dr. Gelehrter, active emeritus professor, and former Chair of the Department of Human Genetics.
This year’s speaker is Helen H. Hobbs, M.D., professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, who won a 2016 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences and the 2018 Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine. Elected in 2004 to the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences, her research on the identification of defective genes in patients with premature coronary artery disease is widely acknowledged. She is Chief of the Division of Medical Genetics, and Director of the Reynolds Cardiovascular Clinical Research Center at UTSW.
