Nursing at Michigan recently hosted a group of six nurses from Taipei Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan from July 29 through Aug. 1.

The nurses came to Michigan Medicine to learn about liver and gastrointestinal diseases, interdisciplinary care teams, the roles of nurse practitioners, nursing continuing education, nursing informatics and nursing quality. An itinerary was developed that exposed the nurse visitors to these areas and more.

The nurses shadowed providers in the Rogel Cancer Center, MSSU and Taubman GI MPU. They met with Professional Development & Education, Nursing Informatics, Nursing Quality, Recruitment and Retention, and faculty in the School of Nursing. They learned from the Magnet team and ambassadors, toured the academic medical center campus and simulation centers and found out more about about the organization’s approach to patient- and family-centered care and Michigan Medicine’s culture of safety.

The nurses had a great experience during their four-day visit and they plan to share their learnings with their colleagues in Taiwan.

Thank you to everyone who met with these nurses, who expressed appreciation for the dedication nursing teams show to their work, patients and families!
