Cyber Safety – Review in 2: Lock your device

August 7, 2019  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

If you walk away from your computer — even for a brief moment — do you lock it? Leaving your device unlocked is similar to leaving your car running with the doors wide open. Anyone can gain access to it.

Many Michigan Medicine employees have privileged access to patient information, financial statements, confidential documents and employee data. Leaving a device unlocked enables others to use your access to view, modify, remove or even share sensitive data — actions which you are then held accountable.

Tips

  • Get into the habit of locking your computer or mobile device, whenever you leave it unattended:
    • PCs: Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete
    • Macs: Press Ctrl + Shift + Eject
  • When using a mobile device for Michigan Medicine business, ensure it is enrolled in Intelligent Hub, which will require the device to enable the locking feature.
