A new look at performance reviews
It’s that time of the year again. Performance review time, yay! (Said no one ever.)
While the anxiety levels can be high during this time, it’s important to remember that this is a prime opportunity for reflection, feedback, prioritization and improvement.
The Organizational Learning team has taken a closer look at the performance evaluation process and implemented several changes to ensure that everyone has a more valuable and purpose-driven experience.
The team has introduced the Performance Valuation, which takes a positive approach toward performance improvement and on how current and future accomplishments can help achieve overall professional goals and satisfaction.
This is one of many highlights that will be covered throughout the year to help you navigate the new performance management resources. Click here for a snapshot of what’s to come.
A new resource
Setting effective goals has been proven to maximize success especially within the performance management process.
Setting S.M.A.R.T (specific, measureable, achievable, relevant, timed) goals is a form of motivation to grow professionally and work toward achieving the mission of Michigan Medicine.
Free workshops have been set up to assist individuals in goal setting for performance valuations. (Additionally, please feel free to reference the convenient two-minute videos that discuss SMART goals here.)
S.M.A.R.T goals workshops (Click here to register):
- Tuesday, July 16: 8 a.m. – 10 a.m., CVC 2nd Floor, Danto Auditorium
- Thursday, Aug. 16: 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., CVC 2nd Floor, Danto Auditorium
Having meaningful conversations
Quarterly check-ins have been shown to increase engagement and productivity, reduce the occurrence of evaluation bias and assist in streamlining the overall performance valuation process.
It is strongly encouraged that leaders and direct reports meet at least quarterly, however, even monthly meetings have shown to be beneficial. Click here for a useful tool to get started on your quarterly check-ins.
