Union staff election for Police Oversight Committee underway

The election for the union staff representative to serve on the university’s Police Department Oversight Committee is underway. Online voting is available through 5 p.m. on Friday, June 14.

Members of AFSCME, IUOE, HOA, MNA and Skilled Trades at Michigan Medicine and on the Ann Arbor campus are eligible to vote in this election.

The Police Department Oversight Committee considers grievances against any police officer or the U-M Police Department. Its findings and recommendations are reported to the executive director of the Division of Public Safety and Security.

The six-member committee includes two students, two faculty members (one Senate faculty and one non-Senate faculty), and two staff members (one union and one non-union representative), who are nominated and elected by their peers for two-year terms.

Review the statements of the candidates and vote.

Voting more than once or for more than one candidate will result in disqualification. Appointment of the newly elected member to the committee will take place on July 1.
