Organization to launch new chaperone policy

June 13, 2019  //  FOUND IN: Strategy & Leadership

As part of the organization’s efforts to ensure a safe environment and culture of respect, Michigan Medicine will be launching a new chaperone policy in all patient care areas.

This policy will ensure that very specific precautions will be taken to help pediatric, adolescent and adult patients feel safe and comfortable during sensitive procedures and tests. A copy of the policy and additional resources can be found here.

Training to support implementation of the chaperone policy will be administered through MLearning, and considered mandatory for all clinical and non-clinical employees working in patient care areas. All faculty, staff and learners who work in patient care areas are encouraged to take this training very seriously, and help everyone on their care teams reach compliance with this requirement. The course is: OCAX-C28402 Use of Chaperones during Sensitive Exams, Procedures and Care.

The training video for staff can be viewed here and every health system employee is encouraged to view it.

Thank you for your commitment to building and maintaining a culture of safety and respect at Michigan Medicine!
