Community Conversation event to be held Tuesday in Ford Auditorium

June 24, 2019  //  FOUND IN: Our Employees

Following a disturbing incident that occurred in the hospital last week (for background, please see email from Marschall S. Runge, M.D., Ph.D., sent last Friday), there is an ongoing investigation by the university’s Division of Public Safety and Security (DPSS).

While detailed information regarding the investigation cannot be shared at this time so as not to compromise it; it is progressing and the organization will be communicating promptly as soon as the investigation is concluded.

In the meantime, Michigan Medicine recognizes that these recent events may raise very serious concerns and anxieties within the community. Across the institution, there are several different resources available to employees if they should feel the need for additional support. These resources include the Office of Counseling and Workplace Resilience, the Office for Health Equity & Inclusion, Social Work & Spiritual Care, and the Office for Institutional Equity, where trained professionals are available and ready to engage with all faculty, staff and learners.

Additionally, Michigan Medicine Security is poised to respond to both individual or broader unit requests for more information about security and to reports of concerns and potential issues. They are also committed to actively rounding across campus to understand first-hand any potential safety issues in specific locations, on both the main medical campus and remote locations.

You may report concerns to Security at 734-936-7890, or Compliance at 866-990-0111,

When a community is challenged, often it is most beneficial and healing to bring people together to share conversations that can help everyone move forward.

The Office for Health Equity & Inclusion will be hosting a Community Conversation event on Tuesday, June 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Ford Auditorium. All faculty, staff and learners are welcome to join the conversation and reinforce the strength of a unified Michigan Medicine community. You may join the conversation remotely by clicking on this link or by calling 415-466-7000 and entering PIN: 3027925#.

Michigan Medicine stands united and strong to make it clear to all that the institution fiercely values and defends equality, respect and dignity for all, inclusiveness and the elimination of discrimination.
