Still life textile art on display at Michigan Medicine
Barbara J. Schneider’s studio is in the Starline Factory in Harvard, Illinois.
She has an extensive background in surface design and works with cloth, paint, dye and thread.
The Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi (aesthetic of transience and imperfection) is a strong influence in her work.
Schneider’s work is now on display at Michigan Medicine with a collection of stitched textiles that are a reinterpretation of traditional still-life paintings. These small, intimate artworks use vintage Japanese boro fabrics as backgrounds for personal objects that contain a Wabi-Sabi spirit.
