Michigan Medicine again honored for patient safety
Thank you, Michigan Medicine faculty and staff, for helping the organization achieve yet another patient safety honor!
Earlier today, the organization earned an “A” grade for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group. It is one of only two hospitals in the state to earn an “A” on every safety report Leapfrog has released since 2012. The reports come out twice yearly.
To compile its grades, Leapfrog looked at a 28 measurable data points, including:
- Infections
- Problems during and after surgery
- Patient falls and other trauma
- Outcomes data from patients who receive care
Additionally, Leapfrog looks at the practices in place to prevent harm events, and takes into account surveys and performance data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea, which has a partnership with Michigan Medicine, also received an “A” in patient safety.
Congratulations to all of the organization’s employees who play a role in keeping patients safe from harm!
