Report your Community Benefit by June 28

Each year, Michigan Medicine’s faculty, staff and students show their commitment to improving the health of the local community by providing programs and services for free or at a lower cost.

It’s an inspiring display of compassion by team members who spend hours caring for and promoting the well-being of the poor, underserved and underinsured members of the Ann Arbor area, Washtenaw County and the state of Michigan.

These efforts are officially categorized as a “Community Benefit” (CB).

Between now and June 28, Michigan Medicine departments should submit reports for services they provided to the community during fiscal year 2018 (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018). The reporting form can be downloaded on the Michigan Medicine Community Benefit website.

The Office of Community Benefit, in collaboration with many Michigan Medicine departments, prepares the annual Michigan Health and Hospital Association Community Benefit survey.

The survey highlights contributions of hospitals to their communities across Michigan and provides an opportunity for the organization to assess its investment in advancing community health. Reporting Community Benefit is an important factor in the continuation of the organization’s tax-exempt status, and new IRS requirements under the Affordable Care Act make the demonstration of community service more important than ever.
