‘Don’t take the bait’ Cyber Safety – Review in 2: Beware of phishing

April 3, 2019  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

Phishing is a fraudulent practice of sending emails that portray reputable companies or people in order to encourage individuals to reveal personal information or to infect your computer with viruses.

Phishing tips and reminders

  • Read carefully when an email is marked “External Email – Use Caution”

  • Never provide your user name or password in an email.

  • Phishing emails usually have grammatical, typographical or other errors and are written to create a sense of urgency and an immediate response

  • Watch for emails asking you to go bypass standard processes

  • Never forward a suspected phish to a friend or co-worker: Always report it!

When in doubt, report it!

Coming in May, a new way to report phishing emails will be made available in Outlook. If you suspect an email is a phishing attempt, click on the Report Phishing button. The email will be reported and deleted from your inbox.

Readers are encouraged not only to view the April Cyber Safety poster, but to print it, hang it up and share it with others.
