During National Recognition Month, honoring those who Make a Difference
Every month, Michigan Medicine receives thousands of nominations for Making a Difference awards, given to employees who inspire their colleagues, patients or families.
The program is an important way to recognize those who go above and beyond in their daily efforts to push the organization forward in its mission of advancing health to serve Michigan and the world.
“We all have coworkers who shine in their commitment to what they do — and work hard to carry out their work in uplifting and powerful ways,” said JoAnn Grantham, recognition program manager for Michigan Medicine Human Resources. “We encourage all of our staff members to recognize these colleagues through the Making a Difference program, making it among our most valuable and impactful recognition efforts.”
So who inspires you? Click here to nominate a colleague or team who makes a difference at Michigan Medicine.
And check out a handful of winners below, who were honored for their efforts last month!
Michael Warden, senior director, IT Service Management
Never does a day go by that Michael doesn’t make a difference. His support, coaching, enthusiasm and drive never surprise me. He continues to make us all want to be the best we can be in Service Management. Our team is great and I am so very thankful to be a part of it. Michael, you and the rest of the team make getting up and coming to work a treat, not a chore. Thank you!
Amy Schroeder, clinical research coordinator, O-CTSU Study Coordinator Data
Amy, you truly understand what clinical trials are all about. Your knowledge of the science behind the studies and the importance of collecting specific data points — such as labs, images, etc. — is inspiring. You are also always entering and delivering the data on time and addressing queries promptly. Thank you for being such a dedicated and ethical coordinator with great communication skills. You are a total joy to work with and a great future ahead of you!
Reagan (Rocky) Graham, guest services specialist
Rocky is always such a positive personality. He is bright and cheerful, and always has something positive to say. He puts a smile on my face and those of our guests whenever they see him at the desk — wherever that desk may be. Thank you, Rocky!
Troy Taylor, medical assistant specialist, South Main Orthopaedics
Troy, thank you so much for making a difference over the past few weeks. You have gone above the call of duty, working hard to shovel snow and salting sidewalks to ensure our patients and staff were safe when they came to our clinic. South Main Orthopaedics wouldn’t be the same without you!
Jay Dawn Malayang, health care interpreter, Interpreter Services
Jay Dawn recently provided excellent interpreter services for a family greatly in need of assistance. The appointment took place in the patient’s home, and Jay Dawn came out in the midst of the polar vortex, ensuring that proper, patient-centered care was provided. Thank you for your amazing commitment to our patients!
Family to staff
Leticia Bonam, ICU technician, 8A3 Oncology Acute Care
Leticia, your pleasant and happy attitude really helped my mother’s recovery. You were supportive of her and attended to her needs so well. You always made her — and me — feel that calling for you or asking you to do something was no burden at all. You made her stay comfortable and made her feel special at a time that was stressful. She is normally a very independent person so for her to ask for help and receive it so lovingly made it easier for her to request the help she needed. Thank you for your special care.
Patient to staff
Alexandra Kennedy, registered dietitian nutritionist, ACS Chelsea Health Center
Alex is knowledgeable, smart, practical and understanding. When I was struggling, she was supportive and encouraging. When I was perplexed, she was knowledgeable and pragmatic. Besides her kindness, she offered me practical and emotional solutions that fit my personality and individual struggles. I appreciate her more than I can describe. Thank you, Alex!
