BCSC nurses promote importance of screening during Colon Cancer Awareness Month
March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, an annual celebration aimed at increasing awareness of colorectal cancer.
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S. for both men and women. This year, approximately 140,000 new cases of colorectal cancer will be diagnosed and 56,000 people will die from the disease.
The month offers health care providers who care for patients with diseases of the colon a great opportunity to educate their community about the disease and promote awareness.
At the new Brighton Center for Specialty Care, the nurses in the Medical Procedures Unit are promoting the awareness of the importance of screening, prevention and treatment throughout the month of March. They will have educational tables at BCSC and will be available throughout the month to promote awareness with visitors and other staff members.
