Making a Difference: January 2019 highlights
Employees across Michigan Medicine continue to make a difference and inspire colleagues through their hard work and dedication. Recognizing the contributions employees make to the organization helps the team to become more motivated, drives better teamwork and gives each individual a sense that they are an integral part of achieving organizational goals.
Here are just a few examples of how faculty and staff helped Michigan Medicine provide exceptional care and service last month:
Linda Weinlander, R.N., case manager, Case Management
I can always rely on Linda to provide me with all of the information, documentation and details I need to help take care of our patients. As Linda knows, we request a lot of specific info and she always comes through with providing what I ask for. She never complains and displays a positive attitude even when times do get tough. I can tell she really cares about her patients and goes above and beyond the call of duty to help them get what they need for a safe discharge home. I really appreciate Linda so much!
Anna LeRoy, human resources business partner
Anna has been a tremendous business partner for the pharmacy department. She is very responsive and thorough in her work and has taken the time to understand our challenges. I have very much appreciated her efforts and the continuity of having the same person to work with. Thank you very much for all you do, Anna!
Renee Uchtorff, respiratory therapy supervisor, Respiratory Care
In the midst of the polar vortex, Renee took the time to haul in a big bag of supplies to treat the staff to homemade hot chocolate on “National Hot Chocolate Day.” It was so fun to hear all the happy sounds from our break room as our team enjoyed their treat. Thank you, Renee, for your thoughtfulness and putting your culinary skills to use and warming us up when the wind chill was -35. YOU ROCK!
Richard McKesson, linen distribution assistant supervisor, laundry
Thank you, Richard, for going out of your way to make sure we had linens for the evening when our cupboards were empty. You personally delivered them to us at the end of the day shift. You are so helpful, responsive and genuine, and you brighten up those around you with your positivity and charisma!
Ponni Kumaraguru, business systems analyst, Office of Patient Experience
Ponni always goes above and beyond to solve complicated multidisciplinary scheduling issues. She has helped develop methods that have decreased human error and increased utilization. Recently, her help with a particularly tricky new coordinated care clinic was invaluable. We wouldn’t be able to effectively manage the schedules without Ponni — she is fantastic!
Abigail Hiske, unit custodian, Environmental Services
Abigail, your positive attitude, willingness to help and wonderful bedside manner are all so important to our organization. It’s wonderful to see you engage with patients and families and become part of the team. Frequently, I am asked when you will be back because families like to talk to you. The detail in which you clean the patient rooms is so impressive and much appreciated! It’s people like you who make Environmental Services such an integral part of Michigan Medicine.
Patient to staff
Rodney Hemphill, registered nurse, trauma burn
Rodney was a source of calm for me in the most traumatic time in my life. His ability to keep me feeling safe in his presence will forever mean so much to me. Even when I was at my worst, he managed to keep my mind and spirits in a place that allowed me to heal, and I will forever be grateful to him and the rest of trauma burn for being so strong around me.
Ashley Reid, security officer
At a time when I was feeling alone, Ashley took the time to talk to me and help me clear my head. She helped me to understand that there are wonderful people who care — and she is one of them. She has made a great change in my stay here. Thank you, Ashley, for making an impact.
Tom Kehoe, cardiac sono non-invasive tech, CVC 3 outpatient clinic
Tom was my sonographer at my appointment last week. He greeted me immediately and joked with me to lighten the mood. He explained everything he was seeing and doing. He was quick and thorough. Tom is a great example of the Michigan Difference!
Amy Long, registered nurse, Home Care Services, Michigan Visiting Nurses
Amy, you’re compassionate and share your great medical knowledge. Your help to me during an extremely difficult time was invaluable. I always felt more comfortable both physically and emotionally after your visits. Your thorough explanations of what to watch for and what each medication was for following my surgery helped me to feel at ease. Thank you, Amy, for all you have done for me.
