The Forum will be led by Professor of Internal Medicine and Health Behavior & Health Education Michele Heisler, MD, MPA. Dr. Heisler’s research has focused on patient self-management of chronic illness, as well as behavioral interventions and implementation research. She has worked extensively in South America and is the Brazil Platform faculty lead for Global REACH. Lemlem Beza is a visiting PhD fellow from Addis Ababa University through the University of Michigan African Presidential Scholars (UMAPS) program. Her work in Ethiopia focuses on acute coronary syndrome treatment-seeking behavior. Finally, UMMS M4 Lauren Agoubi will present on a recent research project in Cameroon which set out to examine stakeholder opinions and influence on recent government reforms to overhaul the way surgical care is delivered.
