HITS implements change to add BCC field to Outlook client

Michigan Medicine employees will notice a change in their email draft messages after HITS implemented a change making the Blind Courtesy Copy, or BCC, option more visible in the Outlook client on HITS-managed CoreImage and Flex Windows computers.

Effective today, the BCC will automatically show up for users.

This feature is used to send a copy of the correspondence to someone without allowing any of the recipients in the “To” or “CC” fields to know that the BCC’d person is receiving the message.

The BCC field can also be used to send an email to multiple addresses and protect the privacy of the recipients since the names will be hidden. For example, use the BCC field when sending a mass email since it is unnecessary for the recipients to know the names of everyone receiving the email.

Michigan Medicine employees are encouraged to use the BCC field appropriately. Training and reference materials as well as email etiquette tips are available in the Knowledgebase.
