Save the date: Martin Luther King, Jr. Symposium

October 23, 2018  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

Since 1986, U-M has hosted its annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Symposium, which includes a theme composed by faculty, staff and students across campus based on its relevance to current social justice issues and the teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The theme for the 2019 Symposium is Unravel. This theme represents the value and at times frightening nature of unmasking and addressing institutional -isms.

To unravel is to deeply examine values, and the character of actions, in order to tease out the parts of an individual’s identity that leads to marginalizing and targeting others.

The keynote memorial lecture for the annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Symposium will take place on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Hill Auditorium. The lecture is coordinated by the Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives under the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

The organization looks forward to celebrating the national MLK Holiday, and also highlighting department-sponsored events, both on the website and in the U-M MLK Symposium Commemorative Booklet.

In order for your event to post both on the website and in the booklet, please submit your event information by clicking here. Event information submitted after Nov. 18 will be posted on the website, but not in the U-M MLK Symposium booklet.
