Pink Piglet by Marcia Polenberg.

Marcia Polenberg loves animals, each with its own unique personality, intelligence and expressive range of emotions.

Using terra-cotta sculpture clay, Polenberg hand builds her ceramic animals, seemingly bringing them to life. The face of each one-of-a-kind work of art expresses happiness, surprise, mischief or a free spirit. Every sculpture is glazed and fired many times, building up a rich, textured colored surface.

Holding an MFA from the U-M Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design in ceramics and sculpture and a BA from the City University of New York in painting, Polenberg widely exhibits her creative works in several media: ceramics, paint, graphite and pastel.

Now, you can check out her work for yourself at Michigan Medicine:

Where: Gifts of Art Gallery — Taubman Health Center North Lobby, Floor 1

When: 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily through Dec. 7
