20th annual holiday project for chemotherapy patients now underway

The Michigan Mittens for Chemotherapy Patients annual project is back again and celebrating 20 years!

The Maize & Blue Michigan Mitten is a way of honoring the organization’s patients receiving chemotherapy treatment during the holiday season.

To date, volunteers have made, filled and distributed more than 8,500 holiday stockings and mittens!  Patient response has been overwhelming. Receiving one of the mittens filled with goodies is a bright spot in an otherwise tedious and worrisome day.

Mittens are filled with comfort and care items, such as: hand sanitizer, lip balm, tissues, puzzle books, pencil, highlighter, coloring book and colored pencils, Jelly Belly packets, note pads, unscented hand lotions, playing cards, toothbrush kits, gum, hot chocolate and candy.

The project team could use the support of Michigan Medicine community members.

This year, they have set a goal of making and filling 400 mittens.

Join the team on Friday, Nov. 2 in the Towsley Triangle from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. to learn more about the project and make an in-person donation.
