MedEQUIP update

September 4, 2018  //  FOUND IN: Updates & Resources

Earlier this year, MedEQUIP was put on the market for sale because durable medical equipment (DME) is not within Michigan Medicine’s core business. A dedicated DME supplier will be better positioned to provide the long-term service to meet the supplies and equipment needs of current MedEQUIP patients.

Effective Sept. 4, MedEQUIP’s assets will be purchased by two dedicated, full-service DME providers, CareLinc Home Medical Equipment & Supply and Binson’s Medical Equipment and Supplies.

CareLinc was founded in 1997 and has since grown to serve Michigan and Ohio with more than 20 locations and over 400 employees. Since 1953, Binson’s has been a “one-stop shop” for medical equipment and supplies with 13 locations in southeast Michigan and one location in eastern Florida. Both organizations are committed to continuing the quality service and dedicated care that MedEQUIP has established.

Beginning Sept. 4, all current MedEQUIP patients will be notified of the pending ownership transition, and will choose to continue with Binson’s, CareLinc or select a different DME supplier. If they decide to continue with Binson’s or CareLinc, MedEQUIP will transfer all patient records as it strives to minimize disruption in service. If patients select a different supplier, then MedEQUIP staff will assist them in the transfer of their documentation; however, some patients and/or their new DME supplier may reach out directly to Michigan Medicine providers for copies of their orders or other documentation.

Throughout this transition period, MedEQUIP staff will continue to provide assistance and guidance as patients begin service with their new provider.
