John Wei, M.D., cuts the ribbon at Tuesday’s ceremony.

On Sept. 4, Michigan Medicine will open its brand-new Brighton Center for Specialty Care. The facility will bring more than 50 adult and pediatric specialty services to the Livingston County area.

To celebrate the new facility and its impact on the community, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon. The event was attended by Michigan Medicine leadership and representatives, as well as members of the media and local dignitaries, including the Mayor of Brighton, Brighton Chamber of Commerce and local government officials and representatives.

Located at 7500 Challis Road, the three-level, 297,000-square-foot facility will provide cancer, cardiovascular, orthopaedic surgery, MRI and dozens of other specialty services.

Brief remarks were given by John Wei, M.D., medical director of the new facility; David A. Spahlinger, M.D., president of the U-M Health System and executive vice dean for clinical affairs of the U-M Medical School; and Jim Muzzin, mayor of Brighton.

In addition, short tours of the facility were offered to attendees, who were also invited to a reception immediately following the program.

“As many of you know, Michigan Medicine was recently ranked No. 1 in Michigan and No. 5 in the country in U.S. News and World Report’s 2018-19 ‘Best Hospitals’ rankings, an honor that measures excellence in patient care,” said Wei. “I would like to assure you that this amazing new facility will bring patients the same high level of care they’ve come to expect in Ann Arbor, but right here in Livingston County.”

In addition to specialty services, the center has four operating rooms — with the ability to add two more in the future — and 16 infusion chairs.

The Michigan Medicine Brighton Health Center, located across the street from the new facility, will remain in operation and specialize in general pediatrics, internal medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology.

Starting Sept. 4, patients can schedule appointments by calling 810-263-4000. Building hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
