Celebrate International Hand Hygiene Day at Michigan Medicine
Saturday is the World Health Organization’s International Hand Hygiene Day, and Michigan Medicine will be celebrating a day early!
Members of Infection Prevention and Epidemiology (IPE) will be all around the academic medical center on Friday, May 4, reinforcing why hand hygiene is a top priority at Michigan Medicine.
“Washing your hands is the simplest and easiest way to limit the spread of germs and infections in a health care setting,” said Nicole Nomides, manager of IPE. “We will be meeting with faculty and staff and having fun giveaways and activities for them to do to keep hand hygiene at the top of mind every day.”
For instance, IPE employees will be stationed at main employee entrances and pubic corridors beginning at 6 am. Friday. They will have larger-than-life hand props and other fun gadgets to take polaroid photos that team members can then take home with them.
There will also be free hand sanitizers and badge holders for Michigan Medicine employees.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to use the hashtags #UMHSIPE, #cleanhandscount and #handhygiene on social media throughout the day.
And stay tuned on Friday, as Headlines provides tips on how to practice excellent hand hygiene at Michigan Medicine.
Thank you for all you do to keep patients, families and colleagues safe!
