Reminder: Joint Commission mock survey coming March 19-23
Don't forget, as part of the organization’s ongoing readiness preparation, the U-M Health System will soon be undergoing an Intracycle Monitoring (ICM) Survey by the Joint Commission.
It is the first time that the institution has chosen a survey to fulfill this annual requirement. Previously, the organization has performed a self-assessment to meet this obligation.
The survey will take place from March 19-23 and include the hospitals, ambulatory health centers, behavioral health and home care services. And although this is considered a “mock survey” — findings do not count against the organization — everyone is asked to treat it as a real survey. That way the organization will be able to test its survey processes in advance of the triennial survey, which will likely take place in late 2018 or early 2019.
In preparation for the survey, all managers/supervisors should review the following:
When employees receive notification that the mock survey has begun, please take a few minutes to review the following:
- Each manager/charge nurse should review the “Survey Tips” for picking potential patients for a surveyor.
- Self-Survey checklists: Each unit/area should routinely conduct self-surveys to identify and correct problems before a real survey.
Please be advised that when a surveyor has been in your area, one of the scribes may hand you a “Survey Directive” form. Please follow the directions on the form to immediately transmit the information to the command center.
Thank you for your hard work and cooperation during the upcoming mock survey!
