Maya Hammoud, MD, MBA becomes the 52nd President of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO)
Maya Hammoud, MD, MBA will become the 52nd President of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO), the leading, national medical education organization amongst academic obstetrician-gynecologists at its annual meeting taking place this week in National Harbor, MD. As a Professor of OBGYN and Learning Health Sciences, Associate Chair for e-Education and Enabling Technologies, Director of the OBGYN Center for Education and Clerkship, and life-long learner, Dr. Hammoud has dedicated her life, and career, to innovatively educating the next generation of physicians, and physician educators, as a mechanism of providing, and advocating for, excellent healthcare for women.
Dr. Hammoud has been actively and enthusiastically involved in APGO for the past 15 years. She has held many leadership roles including Chair of the APGO Undergraduate Medical Education Committee, Chair of the Electronic Resources Committee and Chair of the Testing and Technology Committee that is responsible for uWISE and the Prep for Residency Test. She currently serves as the Secretary-Treasurer and as President of APGO, she plans to focus her presidency initiative on the integration of Health Systems Sciences into the curriculum and the development of innovative assessment metrics for the UME to GME transition.
Under Dr. Hammoud’s leadership and mentorship of OBGYN’s Center for Education, 12 departmental submissions were accepted for presentation at this week’s meeting, including four presentations in which medical students are first authors.
