From mud to beauty: Ceramic works coming to Taubman

A ceramic piece by Jean-Marc Fontaine.
Jean-Marc Fontaine, a French scientist and artist who earned his Ph.D. from the University of Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, creates a unique set of ceramic works inspired by history dating back to the 8th century BC.
Fontaine’s style varies from simple, traditional forms to elaborate, one-of-a-kind creations. Featuring rustic antique surfaces, warm colors and highly individualized textures, his work also occasionally takes whimsical forms. Fontaine is a research scientist at the U-M Medical School in biochemistry.
His work will be on display at Taubman Center beginning next week. Here’s how to check it out:
