Save the date: MLK Symposium at Michigan Medicine

In conjunction with U-M, Michigan Medicine will host its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Sciences Symposium on Jan. 15, 2018. The event begins at noon at the Dow Auditorium and will feature the theme, “The Fierce Urgency of Now.”

The keynote address will be given by Adewale Troutman, M.D., M.P.H., a renowned social justice advocate and health equity expert. A light reception will follow the keynote speaker.

“We are very excited to welcome Dr. Troutman to Michigan Medicine for the upcoming Martin Luther King, Jr. Symposium,” said David J. Brown, M.D., associate vice president and associate dean for health equity and inclusion and associate professor of otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.

“Dr. Troutman has actively advocated for civil rights — including health equity — as an activist, author, researcher and physician, which ties in perfectly with the legacy that the honorable Martin Luther King, Jr. has left behind. We look forward to upholding Dr. King’s values through Dr. Troutman’s keynote speech.”

The Health Sciences MLK symposium is sponsored by the School of Dentistry, College of Pharmacy, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, School of Social Work, Michigan Institute for Clinical Health Research, Kinesiology, Medical School and Michigan Medicine. This year’s event is hosted by the Office for Health Equity and Inclusion.
