Michigan Medicine is set to launch new mobile technology to capture supply chain activities, either operational or clinical, where and when they take place. The first of two phases for the new technology will be implemented on Friday, Nov. 3.
Supply Chain Services partnered with HITS, ITS and supply chain personnel in the procedure management areas to help launch the project.
The goal of phase 1 is to implement technology that improves receiving and replenishment processes to maintain stocking levels at a low operational cost. It will impact MSC and procedure-focused inventory teams.
Here’s what you need to know about the new technology:
How will Michigan Medicine benefit from the new technology?
- Bar code scanning will improve operations and reduce pick and/or counting errors
- Deployed as an app, there will be no need to remove devices except for maintenance purposes
- The new partnership between business owners, HITS, and ITS will allow for the use of existing help desks
- The project will accelerate the impact of other supply chain transformation activities taking place over the last two years including:
- Inventory management
- Centralized receiving
- System driven 3-way match
How will it impact my area?
- The integrity of data and the speed in which stockkeepers can do their work will be improved
- Bar code scanning will ensure the accuracy of orders and put-away to the correct location
- Elimination of batch processing for much of the ordering in clean rooms
- Clinically-focused labels will better identify items in the stockroom
