Skype for Business mobile access available September 9

Skype for Business is Michigan Medicine’s non-clinical business communication tool for Instant Messaging (IM), screen sharing, and audio/videoconferencing. The advantage of using Skype for Business for online meetings and Instant Message (IM) conversations is its integration with the Microsoft Office suite – the primary business set of applications we use.

Effective Saturday, Sept. 9, Skype for Business will be available to all of Michigan Medicine as a mobile device app – provided the device is enrolled in AirWatch. The app can be downloaded from the Michigan Medicine Apps Store which automatically shows up on your mobile device screen once AirWatch is activated.

Note: Smartphone and tablet users should not download the Skype for Business app from the Apple Store or Google Play. Downloading from the Michigan Medicine Apps Store guarantees that you will be installing the version that is compatible with Skype for Business on your workstation.

Benefits of mobile access

With Skype for Business mobile access, you can switch an IM conversation initiated on your smartphone or tablet to your workstation – without interruption. The reverse is also true: if you are in the middle of an IM conversation on your workstation and need to close it to move to a different location, simply log in to the app on your mobile device to pick up where you left off.

Another benefit of mobile Skype for Business is the activation of “Conversation History.” With this feature, all of your IM conversations are retained for three days in the “Conversation History” folder found within your Outlook Inbox.

Be careful not to move any email messages into this folder, as the contents are deleted after three days and cannot be recovered.
