Duke Life Flight team tragedy
Michigan Medicine offers its deepest condolences to the Duke Life Flight Team that crashed Friday en route to Duke University Hospital, taking the lives of the pilot, two medical personnel and a patient. The Life Flight team was transporting a patient from Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
A tragedy like this reverberates through the Michigan Medicine community, as faculty and staff know all too well the grief and heartache of losing survival flight team members. The hearts and thoughts of all of our community members are with the families, friends and colleagues of the lost Life Flight team as they mourn their loved ones.
As a peer academic medical center, members of the organization are asked to increase their resolve in taking all precautions necessary to ensure the organization’s own Survival Flight team — and all those in the Michigan Medicine community — remain safe as they dedicate their lives to the service of others. All members of the community are deeply valued for their contributions and service; let’s come together to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
