Andrew Rosenberg, M.D., appointed chief information officer

Andrew Rosenberg, M.D, has been appointed chief information officer for Michigan Medicine, effective Aug. 1.

Rosenberg has served as the interim CIO since April 2016. In this role, he integrated the medical school and health system information technology groups, forming Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) to support all Michigan Medicine.

As the organization’s CIO, Rosenberg will continue to provide overall leadership, management and guidance for the future strategic vision for IT services. He will also enhance collaboration across all Michigan Medicine IT providers in order to ensure technology products and services support the institution’s research, education and clinical care missions.

Additionally, Rosenberg will ensure collaboration with Information and Technology Services (ITS) and alignment with campus-wide IT initiatives.

Rosenberg earned his undergraduate degree in biology from U-M. He received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins Medical School, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine. Subsequently, he completed residencies and fellowships in anesthesiology, critical care medicine and health services research as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar.

He is board certified in clinical informatics and received tenure as an associate professor in anesthesiology in 2007.

Since 2002, Rosenberg has served in various academic and administrative positions at U-M, including director of the Division of Critical Care in the Department of Anesthesiology, director of the Cardiovascular Center Surgical Intensive Care Unit and director of the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program. In 2010, he became the first health system chief medical information officer, where he directed the implementation of MiChart, the Epic electronic health record system. Rosenberg also created the Office of Clinical Informatics as well as the information and data management division in the medical center IT organization and served as its first executive director.
