October is Quality Month at Michigan Medicine — a perfect opportunity to renew your commitment to creating an environment of excellence where patients and families receive the ideal health care experience and where faculty and staff can carry out their work in a meaningful way.

Celebrate Quality Month by showcasing your team’s commitment to excellence and continued improvement during a Quality Month poster session event, to be held Oct. 23 and 24.

Teams are encouraged to submit any process improvement effort that has been implemented and completed at least one “Plan-Do-Check-Adjust” (PDCA) cycle.

Submissions are due by July 1. No late submissions will be accepted.

Project submissions should demonstrate:

  • connections between improvement objectives and organizational goals of safety, quality, timeliness, financial stewardship and people engagement;
  • a clear relationship between root cause and countermeasures;
  • measureable assessment of the outcomes of experiments;
  • at least one completed PDCA cycle of improvement.

This year, coaching is available prior to submission for those who would like consultation on how to format your story in the A3 poster format. If you have never before submitted to Quality Month or if you are unsure about the process, email Chair of the Quality Month Planning Committee Carol Barnett at

Poster sessions will be held Oct. 23 and 24, so be sure to mark your calendars and save the date. Stay tuned to Headlines as more details will be made available in the coming months.
