Michigan Medicine is proud to care for a diverse population of patients. Communication is the foundation for providing effective care, as it helps ensure a comprehensive assessment and determining a treatment plan that is patient and family centered.

When a patient or family member asks, “Do you have translation services available for my relative/family member who does not speak English well?” Tell them, “Yes! Michigan Medicine has medical interpreters available to translate conversations in many different languages.”

In fact, they cover more than 70 available languages, including American Sign Language. Refer patients and families to Interpreter Services at 734-936-7021 or for assistance and more information. This will improve the quality and safety of care by making sure that patients and families are understood.

About Service Spotlight: When it comes to enhancing the patient experience, Michigan Medicine is serious about service. While the Office of Patient Experience is charged with transforming the way team members engage with patients and their families, ultimately it’s everyone’s responsibility to provide the ideal experience at every interaction.

In an effort to help you provide excellent service, Service Spotlight highlights information and resources any employee can use to enhance the patient experience.
